ARC Review: Afternoon Delight by Anne Calhoun

New to New York, Sarah McCall has started her own business with her friend as a food truck co-owner. She loves the cooking, but doesn’t really know her way about the big city yet and knows less about what the people want. She tries her luck when a hot EMT comes by for lunch. This guy turns out to be Tim Cannon, a busy, but friendly guy who spends a lot of his life on the go. It takes a lot for him to stay, but he is finding that Sarah is more intriguing than he first thought.

AFTERNOON DELIGHT is the first novella from the Irresistible series. It’s a short one, so it doesn’t pack too much of an emotional punch. However, given the limited amount of words, I thought Calhoun was really able to flesh out her characters and give them both a motivation and drive that carried the plot well throughout the story. The ending is a little bit rushed in terms of how Tim comes to terms with himself. However, by that point, I was sold on the romance anyway and wanted a HEA for them as soon as possible.

As you can expect, Calhoun delivers a sexy number that is scorching with its sex scenes. What makes it so hot is Sarah’s character really. I love how open she is, how playful and how she knows what she wants at the same time. Calhoun’s heroines are never quite too vulnerable. They may be struggling or uncertain in other aspects of their lives, but their sexuality is never inhibited. That makes for a very erotically thrilling novella.
