“While there are some good moments in this book, it was just ok for me.”
~ Under the Covers

I have had a most definitely not common response to this series. ย I was not a fan of book 1 but then book 2, thank God I picked up, because it was adorably cute and I really liked it. ย So I went into this one with hopes of enjoying it just as much as SUSTAINED. ย But it wasn’t quite the case.

The biggest thing for me here was the characters. ย I love the style I’ve come to expect from Ms. Chase of having the hero be the narrator. ย It’s a fun aspect of this book because Brent is quite spoiled and he’s always gotten what he wants. ย I loved seeing him shaken up at times and enthralled at others. ย But I just didn’t care enough about him. ย He never made my heart skip a beat or want to swoon like I would want from a hero. ย He was just there and ok. ย Granted, he was funny and at times endearing.

Then we have the heroine. ย Kennedy was probably my biggest issue here because, although I love a feisty heroine, I found her bitchy. ย Too bitchy. ย Too much all the time. ย It felt like touching a prickly beast sometimes. ย And I get her backstory and why she is the way she is, but it sort of makes me think that what happened to her made her turn into a bully. ย And she spends a big portion of ย the book there. ย So I wasn’t her biggest fan.

The setup of this story though? ย I love. ย It’s a sweet second chance romance about childhood best friends! ย Kennedy and Brent used to be neighbors growing up. ย Both rich. ย Both spoiled. ย Both with family expectations of what their lives should be. ย At that time, that even included the two of them getting married when they grew up. ย She wasn’t a popular girl in school, but Brent was still attracted to her. ย Then things had a turn for the worst and Kennedy went away. ย It’s been all these years since the last time they saw each other. ย Now they’re both successful lawyers and they’re facing each other on a case.

While there are some good moments in this book, it was just ok for me. ย Entertaining for sure because the humor is there. ย And sexy a bit too. ย But I was expecting more.

  1. That balance when it comes to a strong heroine and a queen b is tough. I can’t get into books when I get frustrated about that. But eventually I do want to get to this series.

    1. Yeah, and I think it’s probably a mood thing on where that line is drawn. I may think one crossed it one day and had I read at different time I might’ve felt different. Specially with one that rides that line closely. ๐Ÿ™
