ARC Review + Giveaway: Angel in a Devil’s Arms by Julie Anne Long

When I finished reading the first book in this series, my interest was definitely peaked to read the story about Angelique. She was the mistress of the husband of the heroine in the first book and when he died and the two met, a bond and friendship was formed.  This was extremely interesting to me and I wanted to read more about this “sisterhood” that formed between them and how they were running a business together and helping each other.

Angelique is a feisty woman, she’s had to fight and do what was necessary to survive and she has hopefully left a life of shame behind.  When we meet the hero of this story and we see that he’s like her in so many ways, I thought they would be perfect together!  And that they were.  There’s a spark between them that makes them lovable and endearing.  Lucien is a bastard son of a Duke and his father’s wife had tried to get rid of him because he was always a scandal and black mark for the family.  For years people thought he was dead and now he’s returned with revenge in mind.  Both of these characters have to deal with shame and gossip in their own ways but they can also learn from each other and be better.  There’s plenty of character growth in this book.

Julie Anne Long’s writing style is a bit different than what I’m used to in historical romance.  It’s certainly slower paced, which at times can be distracting for me.  I think once I reached the halfway point I definitely was more involved in this story and raced through that second half.  I don’t know, however, if this book left me as anxious for the next in the series as the first one did for this one.

ANGEL IN A DEVIL’S ARMS is a charming story about two people that have been broken by life but have had to rebuild themselves over and over into different versions of themselves.
