“…while ACED was an enjoyable read it didn’t blow me away like I wanted it to.”
~ Under the Covers

I’ve been wanting to try this series since it first released but my experiences reading Ella Frank’s m/m work have been hit or miss, so I waited.  And in the end, while ACED was an enjoyable read it didn’t blow me away like I wanted it to.

We have a huge Hollywood actor who recently came out but hasn’t been “seen” with a man yet.  He’s had a crush on a model he’s only seen on billboards around town (yeah, underwear model) and that same model is now on the set of his new project.  While he’s scared of what the media’s reaction will be to the reality of seeing him with a man, he’s also dying to explore his fantasies.

I admit I haven’t read the Sunset Cove and L.A. Liaisons series which this is a spin off of.  I actually think the fact that there’s a character from each of this author’s series and they get together is a really cool idea and it should definitely be explored more in the romance community.  I mean how cool is that?  But I had no problem jumping into this story without having any background.

One of my complaints here was that I felt the book lacked depth.  I enjoyed the story and it was entertaining but there wasn’t anything in particular about either character that made me connect and care much about the outcome of the book.  Another thing that I’m not a huge fan of is the fact this story is being dragged on (in my opinion) into a trilogy.  Honestly, I thought we could’ve managed to get everything resolved in one book and I think it would’ve been a stronger story.

Ace and Dylan do have some great chemistry and that made me enjoy this book, but I’m not sure I’ll be rushing to pick up the next one because I wasn’t left with that dying need to know what happens next.  And by the way, this does end in a cliffhanger.

  1. I love anything Ella writes. Most of her books are cliffhangers because the story continues in the other books, but you will get your HEA.
