“It’s sensual and seductive, but also strong and dare I say a lot of fun!”
~ Under the Covers
One of the things that keeps me coming back to this series is the fact that they’re not your standard fluffy and cute historical romance. The Victorian Rebels series has darker undertones to the stories and the characters, and that’s one of my favorite things about them! A DARK AND STORMY KNIGHT had a darker start but somehow it went to a bit of a sweeter side, even if we are looking for a killer most of the time. I can’t say I’m mad at it because the story was unputdownable anyway.
I’ve been wanting to read a book about Chief Inspector Morley since we met him in book 1, THE HIGHWAYMAN. And the opening of this book made me a bit swoony about him. I love a good strong hero who is also reserved, inflexible and straight-laced. It makes it all the more satisfying when we get to see underneath that façade. I loved getting to see so many different layers to his character, from his tragic childhood and how he had to raise from it. His society standing and his career. And the masked knight. All that and even more the passionate man with a single-minded focus on keeping his woman safe.
Our heroine wasn’t quite the star of the show like Morley was but I certainly liked her character and after getting to know him more, it was clear she was the perfect heroine for him. I loved their chemistry and strength together.
A DARK AND STORMY KNIGHT gave me everything I didn’t know I wanted from this series. It’s sensual and seductive, but also strong and dare I say a lot of fun!

I’m glad Detective Morley got his HEA.
Thanks for the review, I plan to listen to the audiobook.
Great review Francesca. I loved it and can’t wait to the spin-off series
