“99 PERCENT MINE … just didn’t sit well with me.”
~ Under the Covers

It pains me to write this review.  I went into 99 PERCENT MINE expecting to enjoy it because I liked THE HATING GAME.  It wasn’t my favorite romance novel ever like it was for some people, but I liked the authors’ style and I couldn’t wait to get more.  But as soon as I started 99 PERCENT MINE it just didn’t sit well with me.

I know we can’t always love all characters because there can be some variety in personalities in fiction and protagonists.  But I can’t like a book if I don’t like the main character, or at least that character doesn’t grow on me.  I seriously disliked Darcy, our main heroine.  It started from the very beginning and it just didn’t change throughout.  She was incredibly immature, self centered and unnecessarily emo. I had to feel bad about Tom because he’s actually a really sweet and nice guy and I feel for him having to end up dealing with Darcy forever and ever.

Aside from disliking the main character, the writing felt very choppy to me.  The dialogue at times was over the top, the inner dialogue would drive me insane.  I don’t want to get into some of the specifics of what bothered me because it would be a little spoilery. But I really didn’t find much to redeem this book in my opinion.

I guess all those things combined made for a reading experience that I couldn’t get into and even though I finished this book, hoping it would get better, it never got to a happy note for me.

  6. The Hating Game is one of my favorite office romances. I didn’t love it but I did really like it. I have not read 99 Percent Mine yet, albeit, it’s got a lot to do with comments and reviews that I respect. Thank you for being honest and not sugar coating your true opinions. I’m a big fan of your blog and You Tube channel!

  7. Interesting. Thanks for the review. Out of the people commenting I seem to be one of the only who LOVED LOVED LOVED The Hating Game. I haven’t started this one yet because I was worried my expectations were too high. I am still going to read it because you never know. I absolutely hate some books and series that others adore but I feel better prepared in my expectations going in now. Thanks!
