Welcome to UTC, Alice! I know there are a ton of readers anxiously awaiting the sequel to Wallbanger, RUSTY NAILED is set to release on June 24. What can you tell us about this book?
RUSTY NAILED is the sequel to WALLBANGER, and I sincerely can’t wait for readers to get their hands on it! I really wanted to see what else might be in store for these two, and everyone else in their gang of crazy friends. And while it’s definitely the same feel as WALLBANGER, this book takes a little bit of a different turn. I think there’s some scenes that will surprise readers, that’s for sure…
If you could summarize RUSTY NAILED in a tweet, what would you say?
BEST BOOK EVER. NO SERIOUSLY BEST BOOK EVER. IS THAT 140 CHARACTERS?
While writing Wallbanger, did you ever expect the amount of success you’ve gained since the first book in the Cocktail series released?
100% NO. I could never have predicted what was going to happen, I am still pinching myself over everything that’s happened. I’m starting to bruise…
What would you say is your favorite thing about Simon’s character?
He doesn’t apologize for who he is, which I kind of love. Too often the male has to be toned down a bit to get the girl, needs to be knocked down a few pegs. Simon never claims to be anything but who he is, and I love that.
Which author has inspired you or has influenced your writing?
Believe it or not, I was never a big romance reader. Not until a few years ago. Prior to that, I read everything Stephen King ever wrote, and The Stand is still my favorite yearly reread.
When a book is as popular as WALLBANGER, there’s always a fear that the next book would have some big shoes to fill to live up to it. After the success WALLBANGER had, how much pressure did you feel about writing RUSTY NAILED and what would fans think of it?
Pressure? What do you mean by that? *hand shakes as she drinks martini* Seriously though, yes. There is a ton of pressure, not just from readers but from myself. I didn’t want to write a sequel just to write a sequel, I really wanted to see what would happen next to these two. I just hope the readers like where it goes and what happens. And the naked sexy times…
Do you have a favorite moment while meeting fans/readers at conferences?
It’s all my favorite. For real. I’m coming up on the 1 year anniversary of the first signing I ever did, Book Bash in Orlando in 2013 was the first time I ever signed a book. And I was petrified no one was going to come to my table. It was amazing, I had the best time. One gorgeous reader even brought me pickles! She knew I liked pickles! I thought, “they get me, this is going to be fun!” And it’s been a blast.
If you came with an author warning, what would it be?
Contents under pressure.
There will be lots of IFs in this question. If Clive could speak and we were able to ask him what he thought about you, what would be the first thing that would pop in his head?
Clive would ask me where the nearest window ledge is, and could I possibly move any slower in getting ice cubes for his water? And while I was fetching for him, he’d tell you I give great belly rubs…
What’s the next project you will be working on?
SCREWDRIVED, which comes out Sept 2nd. This one I’m really excited about, because its my first new characters in years! I’m kind of in love with Clark, and I can’t wait for my readers to love him too.
The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she’s gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor’s nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy’s athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly…
In a delicious mix of silly and steamy, Alice Clayton dishes out a hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight…
