“If you’re looking for a new urban fantasy series to sink your teeth into that’s rich and original, with a good side of sexy, then look no further. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN will hook you from the first page.” ~ Under the Covers
HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN is everything I would expect from an urban fantasy story set in New Orleans. A little muddy and a lot sexy. The story starts off with a bang introducing us to Augustine. Reason number 1 that you will love this book. Augustine is hot, sexy, sensual and just plain interesting. But let me tell you there’s nothing plain about this boy.
For readers of the HOUSE OF COMARRE you will be pleased to see he got a book. Yes, this is a spin off of that series, but I have to say (having read all the Comarre books) that you won’t miss out on anything by starting here. And other than the fact this is about a character in the same general world, HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN has such a different feel to the story that it almost doesn’t seem they were related. Up until there’s cameo appearances from my fave characters 🙂
So back to Augustine. He’s fae and a bit of a recluse bad boy. But tough enough that when the Guardian is killed, he’s in a way threatened to take on the job. The world building in this book is so rich with vampire that can walk in the day thanks to a witch curse. Witches that may want to take control of the city back, and fae that rule the underworld. When vampires threaten to overrule NOLA, it’s up to Augustine to stop them and keep the order.
Notice how I keep talking about Augustine and not so much the heroine? Well, I could take her or leave her. She was just ok. I had moments when I liked her but frankly some of her motivations were not so clear for me. Even towards the end. I find that she was a bit selfish and immature and I do look forward to seeing her grow into her character in the future.
If you’re looking for a new urban fantasy series to sink your teeth into that’s rich and original, with a good side of sexy, then look no further. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN will hook you from the first page.

Thanks for the review francesca. Sorry to hear about the heroine, that can really ruin a book.
She didn’t ruin the book because it was so awesome in every other aspect, but she needs some work in the future. Which can also be a great thing to see developed.
Need to check this out…Thanks Francesca
I still haven’t read the House of Comarre series yet but am dying to. I already bought House of the Rising Sun as well. I feel like I need to read them in order but it’s good to know that I’ll still be able to follow along if I don’t. Also, these covers are gorgeous!
