I’ve recently started reading Nora Roberts (I just started with her JD Robb books last year) so I’m really behind on her backlist. I knew she has written in many genres and, well, I couldn’t pass up a paranormal romance! The thing about BLOOD BROTHERS is that it didn’t feel too paranormal-y.
This book setups up the trilogy and resolves the HEA of one of three friends. They formed a friendship when they were kids and they also experienced something supernatural back then. From that time, every set number of years, something evil overtakes their small town. Something they let out. But this time it’s happening earlier than planned. The heroine, Quinn, is a reporter wanting to know more about the supernatural happenings.
I think one of the problems with reading this book now is that I don’t think it stands well the test of time. It felt dated. That’s not something I’ve felt before while reading a NR novel. It’s also a laid back storyline in terms of both the mystery, the romance AND the paranormal aspect. So in the end, for me, it felt too lackluster and it didn’t really leave me interested to read the rest of the trilogy. I have heard though, that the next books explore the paranormal aspect more. But I don’t think I’ll be continuing.
