I have been diving deep into my kindle unlimited subscription lately, which is how I came across the A Twist Upon a Regency Tale series by Jude Knight. Each book in the series is a gender swapped fairy tale retelling in a Regency England setting. The first book, which I very much enjoyed, was a Beauty and the Beast reimagining, in ONE PERFECT DANCE, the second book in the series, we are tackling Cinderella.

Much like the first book, the romance between our heroine, Regina, and our hero Elijah, was very sweet and low drama. They have been corresponding for years whilst Elijah has been travelling overseas, and now Elijah has finally come back to England. They quickly begin a courtship where they’re finally able to express their deeply held love for one another. It was lovely, they were two very well-suited people whom circumstances had separated, and now they finally get their shot.

It’s lovely right? But, in terms of reading a full-length romance book, kind of boring. Where are the obstacles to keep it interesting? Welp, that’s what evil relatives are for, which is especially appropriate considering this is a Cinderella retelling. And Elijah’s ugly stepbrothers certainly step up. There are mad plots, attempted murders and a pinch of kidnapping to keep us entertained.

This series has proven to be a great kindle unlimited find, although the romance itself could do with a bit more…ompfth, I am still enjoying it and will be picking up the next book.
