“Phรจdre nรณ Delaunay is one of the most complex and riveting characters I have ever read. ย Add to that the fact that Ms. Carey’s writing is superb and the epic story that unfolds in these pages is bound to stay with anyone who reads it forever.”
~ Under the Covers

I always knew that reading this trilogy would be an amazing experience. ย It just took me years to take a dive and commit to the page count. ย And I’m so glad now I’m doing it. ย It’s so much more than I ever thought it could be. ย Phรจdre nรณ Delaunay is one of the most complex and riveting characters I have ever read. ย Add to that the fact that Ms. Carey’s writing is superb and the epic story that unfolds in these pages is bound to stay with anyone who reads it forever.

KUSHIEL’S CHOSEN brings more love and a lot more loss toย Phรจdre’s life. ย At times I wonder how can she bear it, and at others I wonder how can I? ย But in between the hardships there is always a sliver of hope. ย That small glimpse that keeps us all going. ย Hoping for better days ahead. ย While she does what must be done to follow the right path. ย While battling sometimes her own desires.

A lot more intrigue and political turmoil plague the story in KUSHIEL’S CHOSEN. ย To protect her Queen, she may just have to give up everything she’s ever held dear. ย It is that strength of character that keeps me coming back toย Phรจdre. ย As does almostย everyone in her homeland. ย With every situation she faces, she grows. ย She grows in understanding herself. ย She grows in understanding those around her.utc-top-pick

One thing is for certain, this book is never boring and never dull. ย For such a long story (coming in at 678 pages) there is not one wasted word or added fluff. ย The lyrical way in which Ms. Carey writes kept me on the edge of my seat. ย Simple yet so deep, so intense. ย I can’t say this book was simply read, it was experienced. ย It was a tumultuous journey, action packed until the end. ย Not knowing which way it would go was the best part! ย Not knowing if there was a happy resolution to each event. ย Some yes, some no. ย But I loved every second of it.

I really love the combination of politics, religion and love as well as the lyrical prose of this series! ย And I think I’m ready for the darkness I feel coming ahead in the final installment.

  1. I have to say the page count and the fact that it’s dark are putting me off but I keep hearing great things about these books

  2. I really want to read this series but the books are expensive keep hoping they go on sale…thanks for the great review Francesca

  3. I picked up Kushiel’s Dart years ago because I liked the cover and the description sounded interesting. The writing, story, characters settings….you get the picture, everything blew me away. I recommend this series to everyone. There are some tough topics but it is so beautifully written that I just let it was over me and it made me love Phedre even more. What an amazing, multi-dimensional female lead character!

  4. I read this and the second trilogy years ago. More memorable than Game of Thrones. I think I read the first book, Kushiel’s Dart, and was so blown away that I ordered the whole 2 trilogies in print within the week.
Awesome writer. I have these books on a shelf to the left of my computer, possibly I’m trying to inhale some of her greatness from the pages ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. You are absolutely right, I do believe it is more memorable than Game of Thrones. Now if only they could bring this to an HBO series would be wonderful. But somehow I feel it wouldn’t be the same because it would be missing the marvelous storytelling.

  5. Gorgeous cover and the book sounds good as well, I don’t think I could do that long on audio. I’ve started to do audio books but only when I can’t read the book (at work and driving).
