“Even in weakness, there is strength.”
— 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙖𝙩 𝙍𝙚𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣, Abigail Hing Wen

Oh my heart is so full after finishing this. Sophie and Xavier are just everything to me.

Let me start this off my saying I absolutely loved the disability rep in this one. Xavier suffers from pretty severe dyslexia, so much so that he’s 18 and can’t even read. Hing Wen did such a wonderful job with him.

Sophie refers to herself as a tornado. She can’t help but give her 100%, undivided, single-minded focus to any task she sets her mind to. Even if it ends up blowing up in her face. This time, when she has the opportunity to go to Taipei to interview one of Xavier’s aunties about a project proposal she’s putting together for her an artificial intelligence course she’s hoping to get into at Dartmouth, the whole weekend turns into a giant Loveboat reunion. And Sophie is running the show. What was supposed to be a quick trip to Taipei and back for school turns into a giant party that gets out of control. FAST.

Not to mention the fact that Sophie has sworn off boys, but she can’t deny the attraction she feels to Xavier.

His entire life, Xavier has been told he’s stupid by his father and kept far removed from the Yeh empire in Taipei. But when his father forces him to repeat his senior year in California, and an opportunity presents itself to do a video project for grades in three classes, he jumps at the chance. Especially if that means getting to spend more time with Sophie, who he absolutely fucked things up with over the summer.

These two on their own are giant walking disasters, but together they bring out the best in each other and find a way to quiet the other’s wild tendencies.

Xavier finds a way back to his family after feeling ostracized his entire life, and Sophie realizes that she can be a #boss while also getting the boy.

I just.. ugh. If you’ve read 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙖𝙩, 𝙏𝙖𝙞𝙥𝙚𝙞, I HIGHLY recommend you pick this one up. The setting, the characters, the family drama, the message of embracing who you are 100% was all just 🤌🏼
